New App Helps Technicians Get Trucks Up And Running Faster – With Fewer Mistakes

AKRON, Ohio, March 4, 2015 – There’s more to the typical roadside service call than meets the eye.

Before, during and after service calls, tire technicians must jot down detailed notes by hand while communicating to their employers, fleet customers and dispatchers by phone, which can open the door to mistakes and miscommunication, and create frustrating billing issues.

"Goodyear’s new Smart Tech App was developed to minimize these problems," said Jose Martinez, business solutions manager, Goodyear Commercial Tire Systems.

The Goodyear Smart Tech App is available for both iPhones and Androids. It was introduced during this week’s Goodyear Dealer Conference in Dallas, Texas.

"Ultimately, this one-of-a-kind App is designed to make the road service process easier for our servicing dealers and end users," said Martinez.

The Goodyear Smart Tech App features buttons that technicians push to keep all parties informed of their location, activities and progress, "from the moment the call is accepted to the moment the technician returns home after having helped the customer’s truck return to service," he noted.

"All necessary information – including the service call’s roll-time – is electronically and automatically sent to the customer. There is no need for writing, memorization or phone calls, which saves valuable time and helps eliminate expensive errors."

Through the Goodyear-Fleet HQ Tire Pix program, the Goodyear Smart Tech App allows technicians to take photos of truck tires that were replaced, plus unit numbers and truck license plates. These images are uploaded to a secure portal, where they can be viewed by customers.

"At any time during the process, both the fleet and servicing dealer can check the status of the service call," noted Martinez. "This gives both parties full transparency."

The Goodyear Smart Tech App is one more element of Goodyear's Total Package Solution, which features industry-leading products, best-in-class services and powerful tools to help reduce fleet operating costs, according to Gary Medalis, director of marketing, Goodyear Commercial Tire Systems.

"We strongly encourage our dealers to download and use this dynamic new tool that will simplify the road service call process and help get trucks up and running faster and more efficiently," he added.
