Since Robert Burroughs teamed up with veteran commercial tire salesman Buddy Blackledge in 2003, the owner and founder of Burroughs Companies has built a commercial tire business that has grown into the largest independent and privately-owned Goodyear commercial tire dealership in Mississippi.
"We've earned a loyal following among truck operators and other commercial tire customers across Mississippi by focusing on their needs, building relationships and treating them as we would want to be treated," said Michael Burroughs, Robert's nephew and vice-president of Burroughs Tire. "That's one of the reasons why we're listed as an approved vendor on the State of Mississippi's tire contract and we provide tires and services to many state agencies."
That focus on customer needs and relationship building has also helped the Laurel, Miss.-based company earn its designation as The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company's Commercial Tire Dealer of the Month for July 2010. Each month, Goodyear honors its top dealers that provide customers outstanding service, while helping them choose from among the Goodyear, Dunlop and Kelly tire brands. The Dealer of the Month honor recognizes Commercial Tire Service for helping customers make full use of Goodyear services, such as fleetHQ and TVTRACK.
Robert Burroughs started his business, Burroughs Diesel, in 1978 as a repair facility for all types of diesel engines. Over the years, the company has grown, becoming a parts and service location for Mack, a dealer for Western Star and most recently, a distributor for Blue Bird Corporation.
"My uncle saw this as an opportunity to expand and provide a more complete line of commercial tires and a higher level of service," Burroughs said. Burroughs hired Blackledge, a longtime local tire salesperson and store manager, to manage his company's operation and to help him build up the business.
The result was Burroughs Tire Service commercial tire center, which handles a broad range of truck, bus, passenger, forestry, and OTR tires.
"We're honored to be chosen by Goodyear as its Commercial Tire Dealer of the Month," Burroughs said. "Our employees have worked hard to provide customers products and services that can help them better manage their fleet operations. It's good to know that Goodyear recognizes that hard work among its best dealers.
"Our focus on our customers' needs has helped us gain their trust," he added. "They begin to see how our recommendations for Goodyear products such as tires with Fuel Max Technology can help them save money on fuel costs. We also help them develop good maintenance practices."
Blackledge said ongoing training programs available through Goodyear have helped him and other Burroughs Tire Center employees keep abreast of the changing tire technologies and what's happening in the company and throughout the industry.
"Our success has also been helped by the fleetHQ program," he added. "This program provides our customers good business tools to help them keep track of their tire expenses. Plus, when our customers are outside our area, they get the same level of service they're accustomed to here at home. They also get the same tires at the same price, and the billing comes through us. It's nice to know that Goodyear has the same focus on customers that we do."
